When is the best time to see the northern lights in Troms\u00f8?<\/h2>\n

The northern lights season in Troms\u00f8 runs roughly from late September to late March. During these months the nights are dark enough for the aurora to show at its best. In midwinter, from November to January, Troms\u00f8 is wrapped in polar night \u2014 and the aurora can, in theory, appear around the clock whenever conditions are good.<\/p>\n

Two things decide whether you’ll see it: darkness<\/strong> and clear skies<\/strong>. Aurora activity itself is usually high enough throughout the season; cloud cover is the more common obstacle. So a good aurora experience is as much about reaching a spot with open skies as it is about solar activity.<\/p>\n

Why watch the northern lights from the sea?<\/h2>\n

Out on the fjord, a little away from the city, you are surrounded by darkness<\/strong> on every side, with no street lights, houses or cars in view. The horizon is open all the way around, and should the aurora appear, you’ll see it reflected in the still water \u2014 one of the most beautiful things the sea has to offer.<\/p>\n

What can you expect on an aurora cruise?<\/h2>\n

The northern lights are a natural phenomenon, and no one can guarantee they’ll appear. What we can promise is the setting: darkness, an open horizon and the calm of the sea while you wait. Some evenings the sky dances; on others it’s the voyage, the stars and the atmosphere on board that become the experience.<\/p>\n
