From street food to fine dining

Are you looking for a memorable experience with a tasty menue as one of the main ingredients? Hermes II offers a unique combination of genuine coastal experiences in a beautifully restored cutter from 1917, and a culinary adventure created by the best local restaurants and producers. Anything from a delicious fish soup served on deck to multi-course menues in the lounge is possible.

We focus on local produce, served in traditional or modern ways. All the way from steamed cod with potatos and vegetables to salmon sashimi in potato waffles. We have developed different taste consepts in cooperation with the top-restaurant Mathallen, the fish market Dragøy, the world’s northernmost destillery Aurora Spirit and the brilliant brewhouse Graff Brygghus.

We also offer menues and more easily served dishes like soups, sandwiches, fish burgers and so on from other local caterers and producers. So join us for a culinary experience at sea, no matter if you prefer a rock & roll street food consept on deck or fine dining in the lounge.

Some of the options:

  • Mathallen’s big tasting menue (6-9 courses with wine/beer) an wine tasting. Chef and somelier from Mathallen is an option. A nice combination of informal street food serving and fine dining.
  • Mathallen’s 3-course menue. Suits well for 3 hours cruises with enough time to enjoy both the boat and the food!
  • Mathallen’s street food served the rock & roll way. Together we find the duration and the number of courses.
  • Dragøy’s shrimps and/or seafood buffet.
  • Dragøy’s different fish soups and fish burgers.
  • Aquavit & herring – tasting cruise (Mathallen/Aurora Spirit)
  • Beer & street food – tasting cruise (Mathallen/Graff)
  • Aurora Spirit tasting cruise (Different types of spirits)
  • Sesonal: Skrei cruise, cured fish, Christmas lunsj & dinner.

The experience

Experience the breath-taking scenery and the atmosphere on board this more than 100-year old, unique wooden boat. Enjoy the calmness out on the clear Arctic waters, while we guide you through the history of Hermes II.

It is difficult to describe a feeling to someone who has never felt it. How do you describe a unique experience that only you have had? So, how do we explain the feeling of being on board a wooden boat that is over 100 years old to someone who has never experienced it? We can try with words, pictures and video, but you can only appreciate the full experience when you get on board.

Peace & quiet at sea

Tranquillity.
Calmness away from the bustling town. Cars, shops and people in a hurry. The peaceful sound of the waves hitting the bow, while the beat of the engine thumps faithfully in the engine room. On deck it is open. Totally open. It doesn’t matter whether you turn to port or starboard, the view is the same. It takes your breath away.

Snow-covered, majestic mountains tower over clean, Arctic waters. The occasional seagull follows the boat. As a reflex, they think that there is food to be found here. Is it the sound of the Cummins 335 engine that is recognisable? Or is it the vessel’s history as a fishing boat that attracts the seagulls to look for a free meal?

On the trip, you will learn more about Hermes II’s intriguing history.

Safety first

Hermes II is equipped with top-quality modern navigation and safety equipment. On board, you will meet highly qualified and experienced skippers and hosts with upgraded safety training. A trip with Hermes II should be a pleasant and safe experience for everyone.

Facilities

You can wander around on deck and enjoy the atmosphere or relax on the seating. Blankets and seat mats are available when you want to warm up a bit. If it’s still a little too cold for you, we have thermal insulation suits you can borrow.

Below deck you will find a nice and warm lounge with seating, dining table, bunks, bar and toilets. There are also screens that show films about the boats the company owns. From dramatic scenes from deep-sea fishing in the Barents Sea to scenic trips in glorious sunshine with Hermes II. All the screens that the skipper has on the bridge can also be viewed down here. You can follow the boat’s course, observe where other boats are located, check the depth around the vessel and try to see if there are fish nearby.

On two of our open trips – the 2.5 hour cruise and the fishing trip (4.5 h) alll our guests get a warm fishcake. On the fishing trip we prepare today’s catch and serve fresh fish the traditional northern Norwegian way. Coffee and tea are included. Other hot drinks, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks may be purchased on board – also on our 1 hour trips.

On some of our SPECIAL SEASONAL CRUISES we offer special food & wine/beer menus. We focus on local produce to give you an exciting culinary experience. E.g: Skriemølje (famous fresh cod dish) in the winter, aquavit & herring dishes for Christmas, beer and seafood-based local street food in the summer or other special events related to food concepts.

We plan the TAILOR-MADE TRIPS in cooperation with you. There are many options, from a pure boat trip without food, to various servings on deck, to multi-course tasting menus in the lounge below deck. On a trip with us you can enjoy a culinary experience with a delicious selection of known – and perhaps unknown – flavours from the best local food producers.

Please contact us, and we will find the best menu for your cruise.

Clothing

Tromsø lies far north. It is cold here, but it is even colder out at sea. We therefore recommend that you dress warm and comfortable.
