Discover the coast with Hermes II

From late summer 2019, the newly restored ship Hermes II, which is over 100 years old, will set sail on brand new adventures. We look forward immensely to casting off and setting out on true coastal experiences, both on board the ship and in the Hermes II shop and tour centre in Kystens Hus.

Hermes II

Hermes II was built by Nils Skandfer in 1917 and is one of only three remaining Skandfer cutters. From August/September 2019 it will be fully restored and rigged, ready to offer wonderful coastal experiences to Tromsø’s citizens, businesses and organizations – and to adventure-loving visitors from far and near.

Join us on a voyage

InitiInitially, the plan is to offer three types of trips:
– 2-3-hour trips with a guide, boat history, spend time on deck and inside, light refreshments and the opportunity to cast out a fishing line. You may also visit the captain on the bridge.

– 6 hour tours two hundred years back in time to a small genuine fishing «village» with storytelling, visiting old untouched buildings, looking for eagles and much more. You may fish on the tour if you want or you can just relax and enjoy the old boat in your own pace. You may also visit the bridge and have a talk with the captain. Light refreshments are served during the tour and we finish off with a delicious tasting menu of local produce on board when we sail back to Tromsø.

– We also offer chartered trips with customized catering, activites, entertainment and other tailor-made solutions. Well suited for firms, groups of friends, organizations, motivation trips and buisiness meetings.

The experience shop in Kystens Hus will offer a diverse range of products consisting of both Nordic and local design, coastal and fishery-related products, our own Hermes II collections and a good selection of other environmentally friendly quality goods.

The shop will also serve as a tour centre for the boat’s various excursions and will be a venue for the dissemination of coastal and fisheries culture. Modern digital solutions, old artefacts and the ship’s side constructed on-site inside the shop will give you the opportunity to gain an insight into both historical and modern fishing.

Tours and concepts will be tested and quality-assured during spring and summer 2019. The goal is to put the ship and the shop into full operation in August/September.
